RUNJHUN DATTA

Runjhun, who also won the Miss India Australia 2008 Miss Congeniality sub-title and is currently pursuing her undergraduate degree in accountancy and financial planning whilst working at the same time. In the near future she has plans to explore possibilities in India. Her talent especially the Bollywood dancing could give more opportunities in the vibrant Indian entertainment industry. Good luck to Runjhun! Or as she says "You only live once!"

Here is what Runjhun's had to say:

On the experience of participating in Miss india Australia national contest:

"My experience participating in the MIA contest is so hard to put into words. So many things were learnt in such a short period of time. The experience of travelling to Perth, meeting the other contestants, rehearsing every day, doing the photoshoot and then to top it off winning two subtitles was amazing. For me, being on stage is something I enjoy immensely. The Miss India Australia participation gave me a platform to develop my confidence and all in all it was a fantastic experience."

The best thing about being Australian Indian:

"The best thing about  being an Australian Indian is that we are given so many more opportunities to broaden our horizens and open our minds to everything out there. We get the best of both worlds basically - the upbringing of a respected culture and the opportunity to learn from a foreign one. I'm happy to see more Indians taking the initiative to travel and study overseas. There's a whole world out there -  that so many people back home are not aware of. I really believe that as the world gets smaller, it is so important to realise and appreciate the fact that everyone is different. Ignorance breeds misunderstanding."

Dream fashion wardrobe:

"I like a bit of everything. It depends on my mood. I like wearing casual dresses a lot and i love bright colours. On the other hand when I'm feeling a little tom-boyish I love skinny jeans with fitted blazer-jackets."

RIMA DAS

Rima, from Melbourne, the co-winner of Miss India Australia Bollywood 2008 feels since co- winning the Miss India Australia Bollywood 2008 has allowed her to engage with the community on a level where she combined her academic studies of Law, her talent of dance, and her passion for helping others to create events. Rima has contributed to assist unrepresented people of the wider community and to act as a voice for the women of Indian origin to use their talent and inspire others to contribute back to the community.

On the experience of participating in Miss india Australia national contest:

"My experience of participating in Miss India Australia was amazing as I had the opportunity to meet girls from all around Australia. Each girl possessed within her the core values of the Indian culture and many had similar talents and interests I do, yet each brought her own differences, adding to the diversity of the group and allowing us to learn a great deal from each other. I also gained many tips on presentation and effect from the make-up artists and the modeling rehearsals. It was a wonderful opportunity to explore another city while promoting and participating in the quest for a modern Indian-Australian Woman."
As the co winner of Miss India Australia Bollywood 2008 it has been a journey which helped me with the ability to reach a national audience and work with community groups in local events for the good of multi-culturalism and aid."

The best thing about being Australian Indian:

"What I love most about being Australian-Indian is that I live the best of both worlds & their respective cultures. There are many values and mannerisms that I have adopted by growing up in Australia and I consider myself a better person because of this upbringing; while at the same time, my mother has instilled within me the language and culture of an Indian girl which hits the core of who I really am as a person. I see the ability to incorporate the best of India and Australia in one hybrid being, who represents both countries, and this is who I feel I am."

Dream fashion wardrobe:

"My dream fashion wardrobe would be that of any Bollywood actress as they have the most vibrant range of outfits combining modern fashion from the west with indian tones and styles to create a combination of east & west. I dream of wearing Manish Malhotra's beautiful creations which envision a different look for each character and personality type."
