What makes a contemporary Australian woman stand apart is not just her looks - she is intelligent ... she is talented ... most of all she has her own mind.

Miss India Australia Contest is designed to showcase all of the above and more. This Australian Indian Contest is an exclusive platform to discover and promote contemporary talent in Australia. It embraces both Australian and Indian cultures to showcase the best in the modern Australian woman. Keeping with this objective Miss India Australia Contest promotes all that which makes up the contemporary woman of the modern Australia.

Some of the prizes the winners get have included a fully paid for trip overseas, accommodation, sightseeing, photographic shoots, international magazine covers, gift hampers and last but not least glory and exposure which comes with such a prestigious title.

Most of all we all know there is always one winner but it is what each participant does with the experience of this unique platform that counts!

The winner of the Miss India Australia Contest gets tremendous media exposure and an opportunity of a lifetime to represent Australia in the internationally established Miss India Worldwide. Contestants from over 25 countries participate in this event. It is an amazing experience for each of the participants.

MissIndia.com.au was first established in 2001.  The inaugural Miss India Australia™contest was launched in 2003, the first ever-national competition in Australia for women of Indian origin. The event was a tremendous success and got widespread coverage in the Australian media including Sydney Morning Herald as well as Indian media both in Australia and India. Miss India Australia and it's contestants have been covered in the media including Times of India, Tribune, Hindustan Times, DNA, Femina magazine to name a few. In 2003 the event was attended by almost 1000 people and hailed as one of the best events in its category by the Australian Indian Community. The winner Rashi Chandhok, from Sydney, represented Australia in San Francisco at the world event in 2003.

Many celebrities including Hollywood cinematographer Peter Menzies Junior, Bollywood actor/producer Sanjay Suri, Miss India Worldwide Purva Merchant, from Seattle, USA, attended Year 2004’s event in Sydney. Vimala Raman winner of Miss India Australia 2004, represented Australia in the World quest in Mumbai and mingled with some of the celebrities of Bollywood. Veteran Tamil Indian director of over 95 films K. Balachander chose Vimala Raman as a lead actress in his film Poi. K Balachander is the doyen of Indian cinema who has created Bollywood hits like Roja and Eik Duje Ke Liye and has been the person to launch the careers of Indian film stars like Kamala Hasan. Vimala is now a famous south Indian film star, who lives in India shooting for feature films, TV commercials and print campaigns. Vimala was awarded a film award in Dubai in 2007 and has completed over 10 films in India since winning Miss India Australia title in 2004. Not bad for a true blue Aussie girl!

Some of the guests who have graced the stage at the Miss India Australia events have been Indian TV celebrity Shweta Kawaatra, legendary West Indian cricketer Michael Holding and many high profile Indian and Australian members of the community.

In 2007 Australian SBS TV featured the making of Miss India Australia 2006 documentary "The Pageant" which was broad-casted on national Australian TV at least twice since November 2007.

In 2008, Miss India Australia was held in Perth, Western Australia. Kanchan Verma, from Sydney, was the winner who went on to represent Australia in South Africa in February 2009.

In 2010, Miss India Australia Contest was a Talent & Model Search which introduced NEW INTERNATIONAL MODEL & TALENT SEGMENT, which gave opportunity to all Australian Women to showcase their talent and modeling flair.  The Miss India Australia 2010 winner represented Australia amongst over 30 countries in Durban, South Africa in 2010.
